Myanmar Mountains, River, Ocean 2016
Rudyard Kipling said about Myanmar (formerly Burma), "it will be quite unlike any land you know about". I first traveled to Burma in 1987 and it remains one of my favorite destinations. A journey from Mandalay to the seldom visited ancient capital of Burmese Nagaland and across miles north on dirt roads visiting Khamti tribes was extraordinary. I then went down the Chindwin River, by riverboat, visiting villages filled with welcoming Naga, Khamti-Shan and Chin people. And finally south to the Mergui Archipelago in search of the Moken sea gypsies.
