During one of several trips to Greenland’s Scoresby Sound, sitting on the bow of the three-masted-schooner, Rembrandt Van Rijn, I witnessed something unforgettable. I was lost in thought when a beautiful iceberg appeared in the distance, a perfectly shaped arch on top of two towers of ice. Readying my camera, I was eager to capture this marvel when we got close enough. As the boat approached, the arch collapsed, and the towers split apart. A large splash marked the spot where this once-elegant iceberg stood. I felt a terrible sadness as I realized this iceberg reflected so much of life. It spoke to me about change, impermanence, and how quickly things can be erased. It reminded me to be grateful and live with love in my heart, as time is a gift. I knew I finally had a deeper and more profound connection with ice. I could feel it.
