Sri Lanka and Kandy Perahera Festival 2017
Sri Lanka, formerly, Ceylon offers an enormous variety of landscapes. From dense jungles to tea plantations to golden beaches to saffron clad monks in temples and monasteries, Sri Lanka delights in every way. Sri Lanka has managed to recover from a civil war that raged for more than 25 years to a peace that now unites previously divided ethnic groups.
One of the highlights, of my trip to Sri Lanka, was the nighttime Perahera elephant festival in Kandy known as the festival of the tooth. It is a Buddhist festival with exotic dances and elephants adorned in lavish costumes. Not to be missed are the stilt fishermen or a Sunday afternoon of kite flying in Colombo.
