Colombia & Carnival Barranquilla 2013
Colombia is a country at the northern tip of South America. It's landscape is marked by rainforests, Andes mountains and numerous coffee plantations. It is the warm and welcoming Colombian spirit that defines the country despite decades of isolation due to political turmoil (La Violencia). From the cobbled streets of Cartagena to the Carnival in Barranquilla Colombia offers a myriad of experiences.
Carnival de Barranquilla is one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations, and one of the biggest carnival's in the world. Elaborate floats carried musical groups and carnival queens while dozens of exotic dance troops strutted their stuff in fabulous costumes. Photographing along parade route was a spectacular experience especially when the president of Colombia's plane flew overhead bringing him to the celebrations.
