I couldn’t believe my eyes the first time I saw alluvial fans in Iceland while flying above the earth in a helicopter. I was instantly drawn to the patterns, colors and mystery of these creations. Mother nature amazed me with her incredible palette and colorful designs - they looked like rivers on fire, human veins, or trees of life. I became so immersed that I lost sense of any horizon and merged with the awe inspiring landscape. These expressions of nature were unique from anything I had ever seen before. Braided glacial rivers of water, gravel, sand and sediment create islands and channels as they flow towards the sea. My eyes were opened to a new way of seeing the beauty of our planet from above. Leaning out of a helicopter, doors off, cold wind blowing, is a thrill I hadn't known before. I felt alone, suspended in time, floating in the sky. It's not crazy it's wonderful....I felt free!!
