Tribes of NE India 2018

I first travelled to Nagaland in 2009 and was anxious to return to see if it had changed. I found that it hadn't! These isoloted tribal areas in Northeast India are difficult to reach and seldom visited by tourists. Living a secluded life in remote valleys, each tribe has developed their own unique identity to keep themselves and their customs separate from the next valley. The people here were once headhunters known for their fierceness. The warring tribes believed that since the enemy's soul was to be found at the nape of the neck, and could only be set free once beheaded.

Included in this adventure was a visit to Majuli island in the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra river and its Vaishnav monasteries interspersed with Mishing tribal villages. Than on to Kaziranga National Park, Guwahti and Tripura.
