Spirit of Cuba is rooted in a deeply personal journey, one that began with a story passed down from my mother, whose love for the island never faded. Decades after her first visit, we traveled together to celebrate her 80th birthday in Havana, a moment that marked not only a return for her, but the beginning of an enduring connection for me.
Since then, I have returned often, drawn by the warmth of the people, the layered history, and the unmistakable rhythm of daily life. While the vibrant cars and weathered architecture first catch the eye, it is the spirit of the Cuban people that continues to resonate most deeply. Through these images, I seek to honor their resilience, dignity, and the quiet beauty found in both ordinary and extraordinary moments.
This work is, at its core, a reflection of love, for a place, for its people, and for the connection that continues to grow with each visit.
